step 1: warming-up
1. daily greetings.
2. show students a video of li na playing tennis. ask them whether they know who she is. invite them to share their ideas. then lead in today’s topic.
step 2: pre-reading
before reading, introduce venus williams and serena williams to students. they are sisters and are both tennis players. venus won her 45th gold medal in 2014. serena was the highest-paid female athlete of the year 2021. then let students predict what this passage mainly talks about.
step 3: while-reading
1. fast reading
read this passage for students. tell them to check whether their predictions are right or not, and answer one question:
what aspects of sisters are mentioned in this passage?
after reading, invite one student to present his or her answer.
2. detailed reading
