independence day
americans celebrate their national day every year on july 4th. it was on this day in 1776 that the colonists declared their independence from england. they did this on a piece of paper known as the declaration of independence. thomas jefferson is credited with writing most of it. he later became america’s third president.
nowadays, most americans have a day off work and get together with family and friends for a barbeque or a picnic. most children shoot fireworks in the evening with their parents. the occasion is also marked by lavish fireworks displays in some communities. of course, the flag is flown across america on the fourth of july as a token of patriotism.
译文：
美国人每年七月四日都会庆祝国庆节。一七七六年的这一天，殖民者宣布脱离英国独立。这个独立的行动是在一张众所周知的“独立宣言”的纸上完成的。这份宣言的撰写大部份要归功于托马斯·杰斐逊。他后来成为美国第三任总统。
现在大多数美国人当天都不上班，与家人及友人团聚一块儿烤肉或野餐。晚间大多数小孩则与父母一起施放烟火。有些社区也会以繁华的烟火展示来庆祝这一盛会。当然，七月四日这天全美各地国旗旗帜到处飘扬象征爱国情操。
语法重点
1.介绍并复习另一种强调句句型：
it is / was + 介词短语/时间副词/状语从句+ that 引导的名词从句
a. 介词短语
一般句型：
john succeeded with my help.
有了我的帮助后，约翰成功了。
强调句句型：
it was with my helpthatjohn succeeded.
就是有了我的帮助约翰才成功。
一般句型：
david was fired on account of constant tardiness.
由于经常迟到，戴维被开除了。
强调句句型：
it was on account of constant tardinessthatdavid was fired.
戴维就是因为经常迟到而被开除的。
b. 时间副词
一般句型：
jane is coming today.
简今天会过来。
强调句句型：
it is todaythatjane is coming.
就在今天简会过来。
一般句型：
mr. lai taught me english three years ago. i became interested in learning english then.
赖老师三年前教我英语。我那时就对学英语产生兴趣了。
强调句句型：
mr. lai taught me english three years ago. it was thenthati became interested in learning english.
赖老师三年前教我英语。我就是在那个时候对学英语产生兴趣。
一般句型：
mr. lai taught me english three years ago. i became interested inlearning english then.
赖老师三年前教我英语。我那时就对学英语产生兴趣了。
强调句句型：
it was three years agothatmr. lai taught me english. i becameinterested in learning english then.
赖老师是在三年前教我英文的。那时我就对学英语产生兴趣了。
c. 副词从句
一般句型：
i respect george because he is honest.
我尊敬乔治，因为他诚实。
强调句句型：
it is because george is honestthati respect him.
我就是因为乔治诚实才尊敬他。
一般句型：
i didn’tleave until john arrived.
直到约翰到了我才离开。
强调句句型：
it was not until john arrivedthati left.
我直到约翰到了之后才离开。
2.本课第二句即采上述强调句句型：
it was on this day in 1776（介词短语）thatthe colonists declared their independence fromengland.
一七七六年的这一天，殖民者宣布脱离英国独立。
